If you didn’t already hear the news, Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin were spotted in a surprise reunion this weekend that the Zenzy team is not entirely thrilled about. Honestly, we’re still Team Jelena and anything less than that kind of power couple will not suffice. A power couple that we’re totally behind, on the other hand? Other than Beyonce and Jay-Z, obviously, because what can beat their new Everything is Love album… We’re talking about sunscreen and vitamin C serums. If you need an explanation of how sunscreen and anti-pollution skincare products will solve skin problems you didn’t even know you had (but are causing your acne), check it out here. For now, allow me to introduce you to the Selena Gomez of this fabulous duo—vitamin C serum.
Vitamin C serum is literally that celeb that wakes up looking flawless. One thing we will give Hailey Baldwin is that she has glowing skin. She probably uses vitamin C serum. It’s an antioxidant, it helps reduce and prevent fine lines and wrinkles. It boosts collagen production. It repairs sun damage. Forget Justin and Hailey’s make-out sesh in Brooklyn, this is where the drama is.
Vitamin C is a compound found naturally in fruits and vegetables. While we would normally suggest getting this supplement out of the whole food, in this case, very little Vitamin C gained from fruits and veggies actually makes it to your skin. That’s why it’s important to use a serum instead, where vitamin C can be found in higher concentrations.
Short answer: Everyone
Long Answer: Anyone who experiences dull, dry, or acne-prone skin, this is especiallyfor you. If you spend anytime in the sun, this is for you, too. Traveling on a plane this summer? Vitamin C is your plane travel buddy. Just want bright, clear and firm skin? Vitamin C is definitely your new BFF. Which brings us back to a short answer of… Everyone.
Now that we’ve cleared up the fact that everyone should use it, here’s how: Apply a pea-sized drop of your vitamin C serum after cleansing and using a toner, and before you moisturize and apply sunscreen. When used in combination with your sunscreen, vitamin C serum will help protect your skin and repair damage from UV radiation and environmental toxins. It can’t replace your SPF, but it will boost its effects. Vitamin C serum is very potent, so you should use it sparingly, once a day (we recommend using it in the morning!).
What aren’t the benefits? This list could go on and on but we’ve narrowed down the primary benefits below:
Vitamin C boosts collagen production, which will leave your face with that dewy, glowy look we’re always chasing after. Firm, bright, and clear. The holy trinity of skin care.
This is particularly important in the summer, especially considering the fact that the UV Index was 9 in NYC this weekend and I got a burn so bad I still can’t lie on my stomach 3 days later. Cover up, kiddos. You will regret it if you don’t, believe me.
Getting asked “are you tired”? is potentially the single worst question you can be asked. Yes I’m tired, ok, I don’t need you to remind me. Get rid of those pesky under-eye bags with vitamin C and a jade roller, and maybe people will ask you “are you untired?”. Maybe.
I’m one of those people who will inevitably pick at my face no matter how many dermatologists have told me that it’s literally the worst thing you can do for your skin. I can’t help myself, and now I’m left with acne scars left, right and center (literally) that make it look like I’m broken-out even when I’m not. Sound familiar? Vitamin C has been found to speed up the body’s natural healing processes, and can heal acne scars and other blemishes more quickly.
Yeah we can laugh and joke and say I woke up like this when our brows are on fleek and our highlighter is applied just right, but when I actually wake up I am usually puffy and red. It’s not a good look. Luckily, vitamin C helps combat this by reducing inflammation and therefore puffiness, specifically around your eyes.
You’re ready to jump aboard this wagon and ‘ship this power couple hard. Move over #Jailey, we’ve got a new pair in town. Check out our favorite serums in the slideshow below:
