These Energy Bars Will Get You Through Finals

School might be taking place at home right now, but it’s not making finals season any easier. In fact, the endless distractions, from your fridge to the knowledge that you could just walk outside and leave your laptop behind at any point, is making it harder. Motivation can disappear when all you really want is a tan. Plus, you can only drink so many iced lattes before you’re so jittery that you can’t focus anyways.

That’s why we consulted with holistic nutritionist Ara Wiseman, RHN, ROHP/RNCP (@arawisemannutrition), to create a delicious and healthful snack that will keep you focused and energized for hours to come- taking you straight through finals and into summer (finally). Her suggestion is easy to make, and even easier to accidentally eat a whole pan of. These Brain-Boosting Energy Bars are great “for energy, brain function and concentration, and full of fiber, vitamins A, B-complex, E and C”, according to Ara. In simpler terms, they’re full of everything you need to ace that math exam you’re stressed about.

The best part is, you basically throw all the ingredients together and blend them- which is our favorite kind of recipe, if we’re honest. Read on for more specific instructions, and the ingredients you’ll need to make these healthful and delicious energy bars.



  • 2 Cups Pitted Dates
  • 1/2 Cup Shredded Coconut
  • 2 Tbsp Chia Seeds
  • 2 Tbsp Hemp Seeds
  • 4 Tbsp Raw Cacao Powder
  • 1 Cup Almonds
  • 2 Tbsp Applesauce
  • 1/8 Tsp Cinnamon



1. Put all the ingredients into a food processor (or a blender if you don’t have one!) and blend until smooth and everything sticks together.

2. Press dough into an 8×8 lined pan and set in the fridge for 30 minutes to 1 hour.

3. Cut into bars and store for up to one week, or one month in the freezer.
